During the late Georgian period, English manufacturing centres such as Bilston and South Staffordshire specialized in producing small, enamelled copper containers. These novelty objects served as patch boxes, snuff boxes, or token gifts featuring hand-painted designs and miniature architectural or object forms.

These pieces were crafted using thin sheets of copper formed into shape, coated with opaque vitreous white enamel glaze, and fired. Hand-painted decorative motifs were applied using enamel pigments before a final firing, and the lids were attached using hinged metal mounts.
