Enamel patch boxes were small decorative containers popular in 18th-century Britain, designed to carry facial beauty patches made of silk or velvet. They were often gifted as tokens of affection or souvenirs, featuring hand-painted inscriptions and floral patterns.

These boxes were constructed with a copper substrate coated in opaque white or coloured glass enamel, which was fired at high temperatures. The lid and base were connected using gilt-metal or brass mounts fitted with a hinge.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-painted details, historical typography such as the long s (resembling an f), and age-appropriate hairline cracking or micro-chipping in the enamel near metal mounts due to structural flex.

Due to their small scale, patch boxes are best displayed inside glass curio cabinets, on vanity trays, bedside tables, or placed atop a stack of books on a sideboard to highlight their detailed hand-painted lid.
