Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George II Palladian mirrors, dating from the early-to-mid 18th century, are defined by classical architectural forms inspired by Andrea Palladio. Key elements include broken pediments, carved cartouches, egg-and-dart mouldings, and a combination of gilded details with dark timber veneers.

These mirrors typically feature carved pine or lime wood framework finished with water gilding or oil gilding. Frames frequently incorporate veneers of walnut or mahogany, surrounding hand-blown mercury silvered mirror plates.

Authentic pieces exhibit evidence of period construction, including hand-carved joinery on the wooden backboard, original mercury plate silvering showing characteristic dark spots or foxing, and natural wear or craquelure to the gesso and gilt surface.

An architectural mirror functions as a strong focal point when hung above a sideboard, console table, or fireplace mantelpiece. Its classical symmetry pairs well with muted contemporary backdrops, minimalist furniture, or traditional panelling.

Giltwood frames should be dusted gently with a soft, dry camel-hair brush to avoid flaking fragile gesso. Water or harsh chemical cleaners must be avoided on water-gilded surfaces, while original mirror glass should only be wiped using a slightly damp cloth.
