This pair of Victorian side chairs dates from 1870 in the Gothic Revival style. Made from light oak with a warm ochre gold tone, they feature shaped top rails, pierced backrests with distinctive Gothic lancet arches, chamfered fore edges, and simple seat rails. The large stuff over seats are covered in patterned fabric upholstery with decorative trim, complemented by ring-turned, tapering front legs and square, slightly outswept back legs. The timber displays natural grain variations and minor surface wear consistent with age, while the underside of one chair holds a maker stamp from John Taylor & Son, Edinburgh. Each side chair measures 95 cm high, 50 cm wide, and 46 cm deep. These versatile seating pieces work well as dining chairs, hallway accents, or occasional chairs in a living room.
