Antique Charles II Oak Wainscot Chair

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Antique and Unique

A beautiful period oak wainscot chair c1680 with wonderful colour and patina, which the style suggests originates from Yorkshire. It has a nicely carved crest with scrolled ears, and a carved lozenge shaped detail to the back panel. There is an inlaid chequered border surrounding the panel in holly and bog oak.

Condition: Generally this chair is in very good original condition, with the wear and patina you would expect from an item over three hundred years old. The only things to point out are that it has historic woodworm holes in various locations, including the left arm, some parts of the back rest and the front rail. These do not appear to be active but we have treated it as a precaution. There has been a repair to both back legs, which has been neatly done and can be seen in the photos. Both these things are reflected in the price. Overall a beautiful piece of furniture in good solid condition.
