Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Preservation requires keeping the items away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber warping and textile fading. Regular gentle vacuuming with a soft brush attachment removes dust, while professional upholstery cleaning is recommended for maintaining fabric integrity.

These chairs function well as statement pieces when paired with minimalist contemporary furniture to create visual contrast. Neutral upholstery allows them to blend seamlessly into neutral palettes or serve as anchor seating in traditional or transitional living spaces.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the underside construction, frame timber ageing, hand-forged or early slotted screw types, and traditional hand-stitching methods. Hand-tied coil springs and natural stuffing materials like horsehair also indicate period manufacture rather than modern reproduction.

Authentic period pieces typically feature a sturdy hardwood frame made from timber such as mahogany, oak, or beech, traditionally joined using mortise and tenon construction. Upholstery foundations historically utilised horsehair, coil springs, and webbing before being covered in woven textiles like linen, wool, or velvet.

Victorian wing armchairs evolved from earlier 18th-century designs, featuring high backs and enclosed sides originally intended to shield sitters from drafts in unheated homes. During the Victorian era, these chairs became heavier and more heavily padded to reflect the periods preference for comfort and formal interior display.
