This 1930 Art Deco display cabinet takes a distinctive circular silhouette in warm brown walnut veneer. Two glazed double doors reveal three internal glass shelves, complemented by geometric glazing bars across the front and small round handles. The whole structure rests upon a curved plinth base with double circular feet, highlighting the period design. The timber surfaces display a polished finish that accentuates the grain patterns throughout the piece. Measuring 128 cm high, 122 cm wide, and 32 cm deep, it provides compact storage without dominating a floor area. Position this cabinet in a living room, dining room, or hallway to display glassware, porcelain, or collectibles behind the glazed doors. The geometric lines and circular silhouette fit naturally into Art Deco inspired interiors or rooms seeking a focal point with mid-century modernist character. Collectors of period furnishings will find it suits both traditional and eclectic modern settings as a functional accent piece.

FAQs

Art Deco display cabinets from the 1930s in England are characterised by bold geometric shapes, particularly circular or rounded silhouettes. Cabinetmakers favoured rich timber veneers such as walnut and mahogany, combining streamlined architectural forms with decorative glazed door designs.

These cabinets were typically constructed using solid timber frames laid with figured walnut, burr walnut, or mahogany veneers. Glass panels and internal shelves were integrated alongside solid brass or chrome hardware.

Authentic pieces feature original glass panels, period-correct brass or chrome escutcheons, and traditional joinery such as hand-cut dovetail joints on base structures. Look for natural patination on the timber veneers and original glass shelving supports.

A circular display cabinet serves as a focal piece against a neutral wall, balancing modern minimalist schemes with strong geometric historical lines. It provides curated storage for ceramics, glassware, or small sculptural objects without visually overwhelming the room.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent the veneer from drying or fading. Dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish periodically to maintain the lustre of the timber.
