Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 19th-century Scandinavian country armchair combines pine and ash timbers in a natural wood colour with visible grain variation across the frame. The rustic farmhouse design includes a low seat height, horizontal ladderback splats on the high backrest, and turned arm posts supporting the open arms. Additional structural support comes from double side stretchers and multiple lower stretchers connecting the legs, while the open seat frame shows bare wooden rails where the original upholstery is absent. Measuring 77 cm high, 60 cm wide and 50 cm deep, the piece offers a compact profile suited for a bedroom, reading nook or living space as a decorative accent or traditional seating option.

FAQs

A Scandinavian nursing chair is a low-slung wooden armchair designed with a reduced seat height to assist mothers during childcare, traditionally featuring regional folk craftsmanship such as ladderback splats and turned spindles.

These chairs were predominantly crafted from locally sourced Scandinavian softwoods or hardwoods such as pine, birch, or ash, constructed with mortise and tenon joints and originally fitted with woven rush or cord seating.

Authentic examples exhibit hand-cut timber joinery, wooden pegging, hand-planed horizontal back slats, and age-consistent surface wear around the stretchers and armrests where hands and feet naturally rested.

Position the chair in a quiet bedroom corner, hallway, or living space topped with a sheepskin throw or natural linen cushion to complement minimalist, Japandi, or modern rustic aesthetic schemes.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and central heating radiators to prevent warping or cracking, and clean periodically with a soft dry cloth followed by a application of clear beeswax polish.
