Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced primarily in Bilston, Staffordshire, during the 18th century, these small enamel containers were designed to hold facial patches, snuff, or small trinkets, often featuring hand-painted pastoral or romantic scenes.

These boxes were constructed from thin copper sheets coated with vitreous white enamel glaze, decorated with transfer-printed or hand-painted enamels, and fitted with gilt-metal mounts and hinges.

Authentic 18th-century enamels typically feature soft copper mounts, signs of fine hairline crazing or minor chipping around stress points near hinges, and distinct hand-applied enamel pigments consistent with period production methods.

These delicate items are best displayed grouped together inside a glass vitrine, arranged on a tray, or incorporated into a tabletop vignette on a bookshelf or mantelpiece.

Clean gently using a dry, soft microfibre cloth to remove dust, avoiding water or chemical cleansers that can penetrate hairline cracks and corrode the underlying metal base or damage the enamel glaze.
