Description

Good late 18th century George 3rd flame mahogany and straight grain mahogany knife box in complete and original condition. Lovely shaped front. The top and front are veneered in a highly figured flame mahogany with kingwood cross banding and boxwood stringing. The handles are white metal, probably silver. The inside is all original as can be seen in the pictures. The condition is pretty good with the only minor flaws being a small old filled hairline crack to the front and one of the brass exterior hinges is an old replacement. Lovely colour with a waxed finish.

This Georgian George III knife box is made from flame mahogany and straight grain mahogany with boxwood stringing, kingwood cross banding, and a warm brown waxed finish. The piece has a sloping hinged lid, a serpentine front, a keyhole escutcheon, white metal ring and escutcheon hardware, and decorative string inlay. A small old filled hairline crack runs down the lower front. It stands 37 cm high, 23 cm wide, and 26.5 cm deep. Suitable for use in a dining room or study, this knife box sits neatly on top of a sideboard or a console table for display and storage. The interior remains in original condition.
