Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Designed in the spirit of 18th-century architect Robert Adam, this style incorporates classical Greco-Roman architecture into interior furnishings. Key elements include low-relief plaster composition details, friezes decorated with floral festoons, urns, and rosettes, side pilasters, and refined, symmetrical proportions.

These mirrors typically feature a timber core frame decorated with gesso and pressed composition ornament for the delicate relief motifs. The surface was then either painted, gilded, or left with exposed timber, fitted with a silvered mirror plate glass.

Authentic period pieces display crisp, hand-applied composition work or wood carving, original backboards secured with old nails or screws, and evidence of hand-worked glass. Finish wear, oxidisation spots on the mirror backing, and hand-planed timber surfaces further confirm historical construction.

An architectural overmantel mirror is placed above a fireplace surround or low credenza to create a central focal point. In modern interiors, the structured classical motifs provide a formal counterpoint to contemporary soft furnishings and neutral wall tones.

Dust the ornate relief mouldings using a soft dry brush to prevent accumulation without breaking fragile composition elements. Clean the glass plate with a lightly dampened cloth, avoiding moisture contact with the painted frame or edge seal.
