FAQs

Windsor chairs originated in England during the early 18th century, characterised by a distinctive construction where the seat acts as the central hub into which the legs and back-spindles are wedged directly.

Traditional Windsor chairs typically feature a combination of native timbers, utilising a thick sculpted elm seat, ash or oak for the bent wood bow and spindles, and beech or birch for the turned legs.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the hand-carved saddle seat for tool marks, checking the wedged tenon joints passing through the seat, and observing the natural wear, patina, and slight irregularities of handmade craftsmanship.

These chairs add warmth and organic texture when contrasted against a sleek, contemporary dining table, bridging the gap between rustic charm and modern minimalism.

Preserve the timber by maintaining stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources, cleaning with a soft damp cloth, and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the finish.
