A set of 12 late 18th./early 19th. century Oak and Ash Country Spindle-Back Dining Chairs comprising 2 carvers and 10 side chairs. As is often the case with country chairs of this model there are slight differences in the turnings of the spindles and stretchers between individual chairs but they stand very well together and would look fabulous in a huge kitchen or country dining room. These Spindle back chairs are often referred to as Lancashire Chairs.

A triple row spindle back chair with back uprights flattened and curved to meet an eared crest rail with vestigial cresting – an attempt to emulate the Chippendale style. Surprisingly, the hybrid works very well resulting in an appealing chair. Particular care has been taken to make the ear scrolls stand proud of the surface. The upper spindles are splayed and the top blocks of the front legs have been carved in imitation of earlier lappets. The lower side stretchers are rejoined by a central one.
