Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of wall mirrors dates from 1870 and displays a Flemish Renaissance Revival style in dark patinated brass, wood and glass. Each piece employs cushion frame construction featuring a central rectangular glass plate surrounded by bevelled border mirror sections and an ornate repousse pediment decorated with foliate floral embossing. The rich brown timber and brass finish shows authentic surface wear and oxidisation from age, while the scroll-carved cresting at the top adds height and architectural interest. Measuring 59 cm by 33 cm, these Victorian accessories bring period character to a hallway, above a sideboard in a dining room, or mounted over a mantelpiece in a sitting room.

FAQs

A Flemish cushion frame mirror is a traditional 17th-century style of mirror, popularised in Flanders and Holland, featuring a central mirror plate bordered by raised, angled mirror segments framed in decorated metal or wood veneer.

These mirrors are typically constructed using thin sheets of hand-punched or machine-embossed repousse brass mounted over a solid wooden core, combined with central flat mirror plates and angled perimeter mirror sections.

Authentic 19th-century revival pieces display age-appropriate oxidisation and natural darkening to the brass surfaces, hand-carved or timber backing boards, and original silvering degradation or ghosting on the mirror plates.

A pair of cushion mirrors can be mounted side-by-side above a hallway console table, positioned on either side of a fireplace alcove, or hung in a dining room to add architectural depth and historical contrast to contemporary walls.

Clean the brass frame using a soft dry cloth or soft-bristled brush to remove dust from intricate relief work without applying abrasive metal polishes, which strip historical patination; clean glass plates using a slightly damp microfibre cloth.
