Regency style furniture and mirrors, popular in Britain and Ireland during the early 19th century, are characterised by classical motifs, heavy gilding, and architectural influences inspired by ancient Rome and Greece.

Traditional convex mirrors typically feature a hand-carved wood or gesso-on-pine frame finished with gold leaf. The curved glass, often referred to as a bullseye mirror, was created using specialised glass-blowing techniques.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the construction of the wooden backboards, the presence of hand-applied gold leaf rather than modern paint, and foxing or minor distortions in the original mercury or silvered glass plate.

Convex mirrors work effectively as focal points in living rooms, hallways, or dining spaces. Their curved glass creates a wide-angle reflection, making them useful for bouncing light into darker corners.

Gilt surfaces are extremely fragile and sensitive to moisture; they should only be dusted gently with a soft, dry brush. The glass can be cleaned sparingly with a microfiber cloth dampened slightly with distilled water, avoiding contact with the gilt frame.
