Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency pier mirror is an early 19th-century wall mirror designed to hang on the wall space between windows or above a fireplace mantel. Characterised by classical architectural motifs, prominent cornices, and gilded frames, these mirrors were crafted to reflect light and enhance room proportions.

Regency mirrors were typically constructed from carved softwoods layered with gesso and finished with gold leaf applied via water or oil gilding. The glass panels were mercury silvered or made from early plate glass, framed by carved decorative elements such as ball mouldings and lion masks.

Authentic Regency pieces feature hand-carved wood frames showing minor shrinkage lines in the gesso, uneven early plate glass, and visible red bole bleeding through worn gold leaf. The reverse typically displays hand-sawn backboards and original iron fixing points.

A Regency overmantel mirror creates an architectural focal point when positioned above a fireplace, console table, or sideboard. Its metallic lustre contrasts with modern neutral paint palettes or minimalist furniture while adding depth and ambient light.

Giltwood surfaces must be kept dry and dusted gently using a soft camel-hair brush or dry microfibre cloth. Water, chemical spray cleaners, and damp cloths should be avoided, as moisture can dissolve gesso and detach fragile gold leafing.
