Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Holmes Antiques

A beautiful early 17th Century, Charles I Wainscot Chair of outstanding colour and patina, in very good original condition having the original drop over seat apart from a small strip to the back edge which is a vey old replacement. The superbly carved back having geometric lunette decoration with central flower, nice to see the seat rails also perfectly carved in a similar manner. The bold and well shaped arms are made from a wonderful thick section of timber. The pegs to the tenon joints are in untouched condition, the seat tips up to reveal a nice golden colour with dry surface just as we like to see. Although the feet have lost a little hight over the years the seat hight is still a good 47cm. Circa 1635
