Snuff shoes are novelty snuff boxes carved from wood in the form of footwear, popular in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries as personal pocket accessories for holding powdered tobacco.

Treen snuff shoes were carved from dense hardwoods such as fruitwood, boxwood, or walnut, frequently incorporating metal wire hinges, pinwork ornamentation, and glazed miniature portraits.

Authentic examples exhibit gentle surface wear from handling, period-accurate metalwork or wire springs, precise hand-carved details, and natural oxidisation within the wood grain.

Small treen objects serve as tactile decorative accents when positioned on a desk, displayed inside a glass cabinet, or arranged on a shelf alongside historical books and curiosities.

Maintain wooden treen by dusting gently with a soft dry cloth and applying microcrystalline wax sparingly, avoiding direct heat sources and exposure to moisture.
