Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This matching pair of Swiss Tyrolean mountain side chairs belongs to the Alpine Rustic style of the 1850 period. Constructed from walnut timber in a warm brown colour, the pieces exhibit a traditional pegged assembly with smooth rounded edges and an antique patina. Notable details include heart-shaped backrest cutouts, splayed legs, and a carved inscription scripted across one of the chair backs. Each chair measures 90 cm high, 40 cm wide, and 35 cm deep. These side chairs suit placement in a traditional hallway, dining space, or rustic farmhouse interior. They offer sturdy everyday seating while adding period character to a home setting.

FAQs

A Brettstuhl is a traditional form of folk seating originating in the Alpine regions of Central Europe, characterised by a solid wooden seat into which splayed legs and a shaped backrest are directly fitted.

These chairs are typically crafted from native hardwoods or softwoods such as pine, oak, walnut, or fruitwood, constructed using wedge-tenon joinery without metal fasteners.

Key indicators include hand-carved motifs like heart-shaped cutouts, splayed dowelled legs visible through the seat top, and natural age-related wear or carved initials.

Dust the timber regularly with a soft cloth and apply a natural beeswax paste periodically to preserve the finish, keeping the chairs away from direct heat sources to prevent timber cracking.

A pair of carved folk chairs can serve as accent pieces in an entryway, alongside a dining table to add textural contrast, or positioned in a reading corner within a rustic scheme.
