Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Preservation requires keeping the item away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the wood from drying out and the fabric from fading. Routine maintenance involves gentle surface dusting with a soft brush and professional cleaning for delicate antique textiles.

This seating style works effectively as a striking accent piece in a study, drawing room, or hallway. Its architectural silhouette pairs well with minimalist contemporary decor, acting as a focal point that adds historical depth and texture to the space.

Authentication involves examining the joinery, wood patina, and hardware for signs of age and hand-craftsmanship. Many surviving examples are 19th-century Renaissance Revival reproductions rather than 16th-century originals, distinguishable by machine-cut elements and modern adhesives.

These chairs are typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as walnut or beech, featuring a series of interlocking curved slats secured with a central pivot or dowel. Upholstery, when present, traditionally consists of heavy woven textiles like velvet or leather, often accented with decorative fringe and tassels.

The Savonarola chair is a type of folding armless or armed chair originating in Italy during the Renaissance, named after the famous Dominican friar Girolamo Savonarola. It evolved from ancient Roman curule seats, featuring an intersecting series of curved wooden slats that form an X-shape structure.
