This pair of large nineteenth-century French Baroque Revival throne armchairs is constructed from giltwood, beech, and wool, presenting a gold frame finish paired with green and red tartan plaid upholstery. Each chair possesses a high camel-shaped back, generous seats with serpentine front shapes, carved scroll armrests with turned supports, and baluster-turned legs united by serpentine-shaped stretchers. Small holes appear within the fabric upholstery, accompanied by a great patina on the sturdy frames. Measuring 128 cm high, 87 cm wide, and 79 cm deep with a seat height of 50 cm, these armchairs provide comfortable seating suitable for placement in a traditional living room or reception space.

These armchairs feature tall upholstered backs, carved scroll arms, turned supports, and decorative stretchers inspired by late 17th-century French court seating.

The frames were carved from hardwoods such as beech or walnut, coated with gesso, and layered with thin leaf gilding before being upholstered in woven textiles.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved details, subtle rubbing to the gilding revealing clay bole underneath, traditional joinery marks, and natural age-related wear to the timber.

Positioning a pair as statement accent seating alongside contemporary sofas or placing them in a formal hallway creates a striking contrast between traditional craftsmanship and modern design.

Dust gently with a soft dry cloth or feather duster, avoiding water, waxes, or chemical cleaners that can degrade the delicate gesso and leaf gilding.
