This is a fine quality antique French set of six oak kitchen chairs, in the Louis XV style, made from solid oak, of heavy and sturdy design, with a ladder-backs, featuring drop-in rush seats, circa 1920, in good original condition.
The six French chairs feature “drop-in” rush seats which are secured by a steel locating pin on the seat frame. The shaped seat frames are decorated with a floral carved motif and the knees also display delicate floral carved detail. The legs are united by four sturdy stretchers (for added strength and stability), with the front stretcher decorated with fine floral carvings. The six oak kitchen chairs are heavy in weight, which is a good sign of fine quality and it means they are also sturdy.
Condition Report:
This is a fine quality antique French set of six oak kitchen chairs, in the Louis XV style, made from solid oak, of heavy and sturdy design, with a ladder-backs, featuring drop-in rush seats, circa 1920, in good original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The chair frames have been glued and the oak has been cleaned and wax polished by hand, to a professional standard, in our workshop. Therefore, the colour and patination are of an excellent standard. The chairs incorporate drop-in rush woven seats, which show signs of age and wear, with nominal old use marks (some surface fraying) but are perfectly functional and in-keeping with the age of the chairs. The six oak kitchen chairs are heavy, which is a sign of good quality and ensures they are sturdy. These French kitchen chairs are solid in joint, they do not wobble and are ready to use.
