A cushion mirror features a raised central mirror plate surrounded by angled or secondary mirrored border panels, designed to enhance light reflection and create visual depth.

Baroque mirrors were constructed from carved hardwoods or softwoods coated with gesso, which was subsequently finished with gold leaf gilding and fitted with silvered glass plates.

Authentic pieces display hand-carved wood joinery on the reverse, natural oxidisation or foxing on the silvered glass, and minor wear to the gilding revealing the underlying bole layer.
