A pair of George III Hepplewhite period hall chairs of a good original colour and patina; the oval backs with centres finely decorated with gilded griffins and laurel wreaths on a pale blue ground. The wide bow fronted dished seats raised on square tapered front legs and sabre back legs. The Griffin is a mythological creature with the body, hind legs, and tail of a lion and the wings, front talons, and head of an eagle. They are considered to be symbolic of power, wealth, courage, and prestige. Seat height 17.5''
