Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Carolean and Jacobean revival furniture, popularised during the nineteenth century, features high backrests, ornate turnings, and deeply carved stretchers. Chairs in this style draw inspiration from seventeenth-century English decorative arts, incorporating scrolls, foliate motifs, and solid timber frames.

These chairs are typically constructed from solid oak or walnut timbers, assembled with mortise and tenon joinery. Upholstery traditionally incorporates heavy woven fabrics, velvet, or leather, supported by internal webbed seating and coil springs.

Authentic period pieces show evidence of hand-carving irregularities, natural timber shrinkage around joints, and genuine patination on areas of wear such as armrests and feet. Construction features like hand-driven screws and early webbing techniques further confirm age.

A substantial high-back chair works effectively as a statement accent piece in a study, library, or hallway. Pairing strong traditional timber carving with neutral modern backdrops creates a balanced contrast in contemporary spaces.

Maintain the timber frame by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year. Upholstery should be gently vacuumed with a fabric attachment and kept out of direct sunlight to prevent fibre fading.
