Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Tea caddies emerged in the seventeenth century as secured containers for storing costly tea leaves. Throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, they evolved into key status symbols displayed in dining rooms and drawing rooms across Europe.

Old Sheffield Plate was created by fusing a layer of sterling silver onto a core ingot of copper using high heat and rolling mills. The sheet metal was then shaped, soldered, and decorated using hand-chasing or repousse die techniques.

Authentic pieces often exhibit silver wear where the underlying copper core shows through, particularly on high points and edges. Construction lines, hand-hammering marks, and folded metal edges around rims further indicate period craftsmanship.

Display the caddy on a sideboard, console table, or vanity alongside contemporary glass or stoneware accessories to create a textural contrast. It can function as an accent piece or as functional storage for small trinkets.

Wipe dust away using a soft microfibre cloth and apply a specialised non-abrasive silver polish sparingly when necessary. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, immersion in water, or abrasive pads that could strip the thin silver layer.
