This pair of Baroque side chairs dates from circa 1700, produced in the manner of Daniel Marot. The walnut frames show a dark brown finish with elaborate carved scrollwork and tall pierced splats, complemented by red velvet upholstered seats trimmed with fringe and turned legs terminating in compressed bun feet. Visible details include intricately carved crest rails, finely sculpted uprights, and traditional stretcher rails connecting the lower turned supports. Each chair measures 138 cm high by 55 cm wide, presenting a commanding vertical profile. Suitable for use as accent seating in a traditional hallway, dining room, or drawing room, these side chairs bring period character to both historic interiors and eclectic modern spaces. The combination of dark timber and rich red textile upholstery provides a striking visual contrast, while the sturdy proportions allow for practical daily use.

Baroque seating from the late 17th and early 18th centuries features tall backrests, elaborate relief carving, intricate scrollwork, and turned legs connected by stretchers.

Cabinetmakers primarily utilised solid walnut, oak, and beech, constructing frames with mortise and tenon joints and upholstered seats finished in velvet, tapestry, or leather.

Authentic period chairs show signs of hand-tooling, irregular carving symmetry, hand-driven wooden pegs, natural oxidisation in carved recesses, and historical wear patterns along the feet and stretchers.

Place Baroque chairs as accent seating in an entryway, alongside a modern marble console table, or at the ends of a understated contemporary dining table to create visual contrast.

Dust wood surfaces regularly with a soft cloth and apply beeswax periodically to maintain the timber finish. Vacuum velvet seats gently using a soft brush attachment and protect from direct sunlight.
