Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Napoleon III furniture dates from the Second French Empire period during the mid-to-late nineteenth century. Seating from this era prioritises comfort, showcasing fully upholstered frames, button tufting, scrolled backs, and padded arms that conceal the underlying timber structure.

These chairs were crafted using solid beech wood frames fitted with hand-tied steel coil springs, jute webbing, and natural fillings such as horsehair and coconut fibre. The lower perimeter often featured decorative fabric valances or fringe skirts to cover turned wooden legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit heavy solid timber framing beneath the upholstery, evidence of hand-tacked webbing underneath the seat, and original coil spring construction. The presence of traditional upholstery materials like horsehair alongside hand-sewn valance pleats also indicates age.

A scroll back armchair is frequently placed in bedroom corners, dressing rooms, or sitting room alcoves. Interior designers often recover these traditional silhouettes in contemporary linen, velvet, or textured woven fabrics to complement both classic and updated interior aesthetics.

Regular gentle vacuuming using a soft brush attachment prevents dust accumulation within the fabric weave. Direct exposure to sunlight should be avoided to minimise textile fading, and spot cleaning should be performed using specialised upholstery cleaners suited to the specific fiber composition.
