This 18th-century dressing table mirror exemplifies Early Georgian style through its walnut construction, warm brown colour and traditional cushion mould frame. The piece incorporates a swing mirror with an arched top, set between upright supports with turned finials above a base fitted with a single drawer and small brass drop handles. Visible details include shaped drawer fronts and ogee feet at the base corners. The entire structure measures 64 cm high, 43 cm wide and 23 cm deep. In a modern interior, this box mirror functions well when placed on top of a sideboard or chest of drawers in a bedroom, hallway or living space.

A box mirror, also known as a toilet glass or dressing glass, is a freestanding tabletop mirror mounted on a base containing small drawers, which originated during the late 17th and 18th centuries.

These mirrors were predominantly crafted from fine hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or oak, featuring brass handles, mercury-backed glass plates, and hand-cut dovetail drawer joints.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetails on drawer linings, natural wood oxidation on unvarnished rear surfaces, aged mirror silvering, and era-appropriate brass drop handles.

Position the mirror atop a contemporary chest of drawers, hallway console, or vanity table to create a focal point combining historic timber textures with modern decor.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, apply beeswax sparingly to preserve the timber patina, and avoid harsh chemical cleaners that could damage the original glass silvering.
