Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pair of 1920s revival bergere tub chairs constructed from dark brown mahogany, cane panels, and cream moquette fabric upholstery. Each armchair has a curved back rail, curved arms with carved terminals, split cane panels on the back and under the arms, short cabriole legs on claw and ball feet, a shaped frieze, sprung seating, and a matching circular accent pillow with fringe trim. The cream fabric displays a subtle woven pattern with matching fringe edging along the cushions. Measuring 79 cm high, 63.5 cm wide, and 81.5 cm deep, these armchairs bring traditional English Country House character to a living room, study, or drawing room as a matching pair of fireside seats. Designed for formal or relaxed seating, these armchairs suit placement around a fireplace, beside a reading table, or within a traditional seating arrangement. The rich dark timber tones and neutral upholstery integrate easily into period or transitional interior schemes. Built with sturdy frames and comfortable sprung cushions, they offer practical everyday seating while maintaining an established antique appearance.

A Bergere chair is an upholstered armchair featuring an exposed timber frame with woven cane or mesh panels on the back and sides. Tub-style variations are distinguished by a rounded, continuous backrest that curves smoothly into the armrests.

During the early 20th century, frames were predominantly constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut. The side panels utilised natural woven rattan cane, while cushions were filled with horsehair, feather, or down and upholstered in woven fabrics.

Authentic period examples feature solid hardwood construction with traditional mortise and tenon joinery, alongside hand-woven cane work. Look for hand-carved decorative details, such as cabriole legs or claw-and-ball feet, and signs of age-appropriate wear on the underside framing.

Position a pair opposite a streamlined contemporary sofa to create visual balance through contrasting textures and profiles. Combine them with a low-profile coffee table and modern lighting to highlight the detailed timber carving while maintaining an uncluttered room layout.

Clean the polished wood surfaces with a soft, dry cloth and apply natural beeswax occasionally to maintain the timber finish. Lightly wipe the cane panels with a damp cloth periodically to retain moisture flexibility and prevent the natural fibers from drying out.
