This George II period wall mirror from the 1720s belongs to the English Country House style and measures 102 cm high, 52 cm wide, and 2.7 cm deep. The rectangular timber frame is shaped with fret-cut scrolls and finished in a warm brown tone, complemented by a gold leaf inner slip, gilt floral side garlands, and a central carved cresting medallion. Visible details include small repairs to the walnut edging, a wax finish, an old replacement glass plate, and carved floral outer edging. Suitable for domestic settings today, this wall mirror works well hung above a sideboard in a dining room, hallway, or living space to add period character and reflective light to the room. The solid construction shows signs of age and historical maintenance while remaining sturdy and ready for placement in an interior.

A parcel-gilt walnut mirror is an eighteenth-century style wall mirror constructed from walnut wood where select carved architectural details, such as the inner slip, side garlands, and cresting, are decorated with gold leaf gilding while the surrounding timber grain remains exposed.

Georgian mirrors typically combined walnut or mahogany veneers over pine backing structures, with carved lime wood or pine embellishments coated in gesso and water-gilded leaf. The mirror plates were made from hand-blown, flat silvered glass, often displaying slight oxidation over time.

Authentic period mirrors feature hand-cut wood joinery, uneven backboards with hand-planed marks, natural wood shrinkage along veneer seams, and mild degradation or foxing on the silvered reflective backing.

Hang the mirror above a contemporary console table or fireplace mantel to create a focal point. The combination of warm walnut tones and muted gold gilding provides textural contrast against neutral walls.

Dust the gilded areas lightly with a soft, dry bristle brush to prevent delicate gold leaf from flaking. Avoid using water or liquid glass cleaners directly on the frame or mirror edges, as moisture causes gesso degradation and silver backing detachment.
