This Victorian commercial display cabinet is constructed from warm brown mahogany with clear glass shelves, bevelled glass doors, and a blue glass cornice panel. The upper frieze has gilded lettering reading Teas of the Empire, while the door glass features acid-etched lettering, and the base is decorated with gold leaf writing reading India, Ceylon & East Africa. The timber frame includes carved roundels along the top moulding, small brass keyhole hardware on the double doors, and a stepped plinth base. The cabinet measures 84 cm high, 89 cm wide, and 28 cm deep. Suitable for use in a kitchen, dining room, or living space, the cabinet functions well placed on top of a sideboard or mounted directly onto a wall to display tableware, collectibles, or dry goods. Inside, the mirrored back reflects light through the glass shelving, providing clear visibility of items stored within.

A Victorian tea cabinet is a specialized commercial display case utilized by nineteenth-century grocers and tea merchants to showcase specific tea blends and branded imported goods.

These cabinets were constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, fitted with float glass panels, acid-etched lettering, and gilded gold-leaf signwriting.

Authentic examples feature hand-drawn or acid-etched glass lettering, original brass hardware, natural timber joinery with hand-cut dovetails, and period-appropriate wear on the base.

These pieces serve as functional storage for glassware, ceramics, or collected curiosities when placed atop a sideboard, kitchen counter, or sturdy console table.

Clean timber surfaces with beeswax polishes, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners on gilding or etched glass surfaces to prevent degradation of original signwriting.
