This early 19th-century Georgian Windsor armchair originates from England and dates to circa 1830. Constructed from yew wood and elm, the piece exhibits a warm brown colour with a well-aged patina and visible variations across the timber surface. The design incorporates a high hoop back containing slender spindles and a pierced central splat, curving arm supports with turned front uprights, and a generous saddle seat. Turned front legs connect via a crinoline stretcher beneath the frame. The structure displays knocks, marks, and wear consistent with age and use, maintaining an untouched appearance. Measuring 106 cm high, 60 cm wide, and 58 cm deep, the armchair serves as functional seating in a traditional or contemporary English country house interior, suitable for placement in a study, library, or living room.

A Windsor armchair is characterized by a solid wooden saddle seat into which the legs and back spindles are secured using joinery sockets, rather than continuous back posts.

These chairs typically utilized native timbers such as yew, ash, and elm, employing steam-bending techniques for the outer hoop and lathe-turning for the legs and spindles.

Authentic pieces feature hand-turned components, irregular hand-carved details, wedge-secured leg joints visible on the seat surface, and natural wear patterns on the seat and arms.

A yew wood armchair can serve as an accent piece alongside contemporary neutral upholstery, placed in an entry hall, or used at a study desk to provide textual contrast.

Maintain yew wood by dusting with a soft cloth, applying high-grade beeswax twice yearly, and keeping the item away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage.
