This William and Mary style longcase clock originates from the 18th century, crafted in warm brown walnut, inlaid woods, brass, and glass. The tall wooden case features elaborate floral marquetry inlays in fruitwoods depicting a central urn, birds, flowers, and scrolling leaves, complemented by spiral twist columns flanking the hood and solid mahogany ball feet. The square brass dial includes cast brass spandrels, a silvered chapter ring, and a matted center with a shaped name plaque, surmounted by decorative brass details showing cherubs riding birds above a pierced cartouche. The trunk contains a long central door with a keyhole and a circular glass lenticle that reveals the pendulum inside. The clock measures 204 cm high, 41 cm wide, and 24 cm deep. In a modern interior, this timepiece stands as a striking vertical floor-standing feature in a hallway, reception room, or study, bringing traditional English country house character to the space. The surfaces display an authentic antique patina and visible original wear consistent with age, alongside hand-painted highlights on the marquetry decoration. The hood sits beneath a moulded cornice with further inlay, and the entire structure rests on a plinth base. It functions as a fully operational timekeeper with an eight-day movement, anchor escapement, and hourly bell strikes.

A marquetry longcase clock from the 18th century features a tall wooden cabinet adorned with detailed decorative inlays, typically made from contrasting woods arranged in intricate floral, arabesque, or seaweed patterns. These clocks incorporate weight-driven pendulum movements housed behind a framed brass dial.

The main cases were constructed primarily from oak carcasses veneered with walnut, olive, or fruitwoods. The decorative marquetry utilised sycamore, holly, boxwood, and stained woods set into walnut panels, paired with brass dial plates and cast spandrels.

Authentic period marquetry shows natural shrinkage, subtle surface unevenness, and hand-cut joinery consistent with historical crafting techniques. Dials from this era typically exhibit hand-engraved chapter rings, cast brass corner spandrels, and signatures corresponding to documented clockmakers.

A longcase clock serves as a structural focal point when placed against neutral wall surfaces in hallways, dining areas, or living rooms. Positioning the piece alongside contemporary art or minimal furnishings allows its detailed wood grain and craftsmanship to stand out.

Maintain stable humidity and temperature levels to prevent veneer lifting or wood movement. Dust the exterior lightly with a soft microfiber cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish sparingly, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners near brass components.
