A superb burr walnut and walnut longcase clock with 10in. brass and silvered dial engraved Edward Stanton London. The later case is a bespoke 20th century cabinet in the finest burr walnut which has a wonderful colour and delightful patina and is in excellent condition throughout and is raised on solid walnut bun feet in the William & Mary style. The dial has decorative pierced brass spandrels with two cherubs holding a crown aloft and a silvered roman chapter ring. This has a matted centre with ringed winding holes and subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture. The face is flanked by barley twist columns to the door with a handsome carved crest above with swan neck, central shell, flower head and leaf frieze surmounted by a water gilded ball finial. The two train movement has an anchor escapement that runs beautifully keeping good time. This strikes on a bell on the hour every hour striking only once at twelve o’clock.
