Condition / Servicing Note:

Please note that antique clocks are complex and sensitive mechanical objects. While some clocks may be running at the time of listing we cannot guarantee ongoing performance without a full inspection and testing period by our specialist horologist. Where inspection, testing, or servicing is required this process can take between 2–12 weeks depending on the clock, the work needed, and current workload. This careful approach helps ensure the clock is properly assessed rather than rushed.

Clock Warranty

All clocks purchased from London City Antiques are supplied with a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase.

This warranty covers mechanical faults and failures arising from normal use. It does not extend to damage resulting from improper handling, unauthorised tampering, accidental or physical damage, environmental factors (including humidity, temperature fluctuations, or exposure to direct sunlight), or misuse.

Should a clock develop a genuine fault within the warranty period that meets the above conditions, we will, at our discretion and at no cost to you, arrange for the repair or replacement of any defective parts. All remedial work will be carried out by a fully qualified and experienced horologist.

In the unlikely event that a fault cannot be satisfactorily resolved, a full refund will be offered.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced during the reign of King George III (17601820), oak longcase clocks were prominent fixtures in British homes. Crafted by provincial horologists, these clocks combined durable native oak cabinetry with sophisticated pendulum-driven movement mechanisms.

Cases were predominantly constructed from solid oak, mahogany, or walnut, often featuring decorative wood inlays. The dial plates were executed in cast brass, frequently featuring silvered chapter rings, cast corner spandrels, and steel hands.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut brass movement gears, period-correct joinery such as hand-cut dovetails and wooden pegs, cast brass dial spandrels, and characteristically naturally aged oak patination.

A longcase clock serves as a strong architectural focal point in a hallway, dining room, or stair landing. Pairing the dark wood and historic proportions with modern paint tones creates a balanced blend of traditional and contemporary elements.

The clock case must be placed on a level floor and kept away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage. The mechanical movement requires regular winding, periodic horological lubrication every few years, and careful cleaning of the brass dial.
