Condition / Servicing Note:

Please note that antique clocks are complex and sensitive mechanical objects. While some clocks may be running at the time of listing we cannot guarantee ongoing performance without a full inspection and testing period by our specialist horologist. Where inspection, testing, or servicing is required this process can take between 2–12 weeks depending on the clock, the work needed, and current workload. This careful approach helps ensure the clock is properly assessed rather than rushed.

Clock Warranty

All clocks purchased from London City Antiques are supplied with a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase.

This warranty covers mechanical faults and failures arising from normal use. It does not extend to damage resulting from improper handling, unauthorised tampering, accidental or physical damage, environmental factors (including humidity, temperature fluctuations, or exposure to direct sunlight), or misuse.

Should a clock develop a genuine fault within the warranty period that meets the above conditions, we will, at our discretion and at no cost to you, arrange for the repair or replacement of any defective parts. All remedial work will be carried out by a fully qualified and experienced horologist.

In the unlikely event that a fault cannot be satisfactorily resolved, a full refund will be offered.

This George III longcase clock stands at 244 cm high, 61 cm wide, and 25.5 cm deep, constructed from oak and mahogany with brass and glass elements. The warm brown timber exhibits a rich patina across the tall case, which incorporates a swan-neck pediment, a central brass finial, turned and reeded columns with brass capitals, a crossbanded arched door, a raised panel base, and spade feet. A hand-painted arched dial displays a moon phase, seconds indicator, date aperture, and original hands, driven by an eight-day movement that strikes on a bell. The clock comes with original weights, pendulum, and key. Suitable for placement in a hallway, landing, or principal living room, this floor-standing timepiece combines traditional horological craftsmanship with classical English country house style. Operating via an internal mechanical system, the clock requires careful handling and periodic servicing by a specialist to maintain proper performance. The design includes glazed protection over the dial face and traditional hinges on the access door. It functions as both a decorative focal point and a timekeeping instrument for domestic interiors, maintaining the proportions and decorative conventions of the period around 1800.

A George III longcase clock dates from the reign of King George III (17601820) and is characterized by proportions refined during the late Georgian period, often incorporating swan-neck pediments, brass finials, and painted arch dials.

Cabinetmakers primarily constructed the cases from native woods like oak, frequently featuring crossbanded veneers in mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, alongside brass dial components and cast iron driving weights.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut joinery such as dovetails, movement plates held together with tapered iron pins, hand-painted or engraved dials, and natural age oxidation on the unfinished rear timber panels.

A longcase clock can serve as a focal anchor in an entryway, hallway, or stairwell, contrasting effectively against contemporary light paintwork or minimalist architectural panelling.

The mechanical movement requires regular winding using the correct key every eight days, professional lubrication by a horologist every three to five years, and installation on a level surface.
