This early eighteenth-century Queen Anne stool stands on four untouched cabriole legs front and back, finished with pad feet and joined by a deeply curved, shaped apron. Constructed from solid oak with a dark brown timber colour and rich patination, the piece displays a rectangular top set with molded edges. The surface shows historic signs of age and wear across the original timber grain, while the legs curve into distinct pad feet. Measuring 50 cm high, 52 cm wide and 41 cm deep, this piece serves well in a home today as a low occasional drinks table or an end table positioned by a fireplace hearth in an English country house setting.

Early 18th-century English furniture transitioned from rigid seventeenth-century forms to lighter, more fluid silhouettes such as the Queen Anne style. Items were often constructed from native oak or walnut, featuring curved cabriole legs, pad feet, and subtle decorative aprons while maintaining solid jointing techniques.

Country stools from this era were typically built using solid English oak, joined with wooden mortise and tenon pegs rather than nails or glue. The cabriole legs were hand-carved from thick timber blocks, and tops often featured simple molded perimeter edges.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of historical hand-tooling, such as plane marks on unseen undersides, hand-cut wooden joinery pegs, uneven shrinkage across wood grains, and organic wear patterns around the feet and lower edges consistent with age.

A low oak stool serves well as an accent surface beside an armchair, an informal footrest near a fireplace hearth, or a sculptural bedside table in a minimalist modern space, introducing warmth and historical contrast.

Keep oak furniture away from direct heat sources and extreme humidity changes to prevent timber splitting. Dust regularly with a dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the timber and patination.
