Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

This mid-nineteenth-century Swedish pine strong box belongs to the Scandinavian Country style and dates from circa 1850. The piece is constructed from timber with a scraped-back bare wood finish in warm brown, complemented by heavy hand-forged iron bindings, studded rivets, and an oval domed top. Additional visible details include original ornate strap work, a central decorative metal escutcheon, an original metal handle to the lid, and an old wood patch over the lock. The item measures 30.5 cm high, 57.1 cm wide, and 39.4 cm deep, showing surface marks to the woodwork from age and use. Inside, the lifting lid reveals a storage space. In a contemporary home, this small box sits functionally upon a sideboard top, table, or shelf to hold trinkets and small valuables. The rustic farmhouse aesthetic suits traditional and eclectic interiors alike as an accent piece or tabletop display. The sturdy construction and original hardware allow the box to continue serving as a practical container while bringing authentic period character to a living area, hallway, or study.

FAQs

A Swedish pine strong box is a reinforced wooden container from the nineteenth century, built primarily from local softwoods and fitted with hand-forged iron straps and locks to protect personal valuables and legal documents.

These boxes were constructed using native pine or fir timber, secured with hand-wrought iron bands, iron rivets, and custom-forged locking mechanisms designed for security and durability.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-forged ironwork with irregular hammer marks, hand-cut rivets, natural timber shrinkage over time, and occasionally traces of original paint or milk-based finishes.

Display the box as a focal accent on a sideboard, console table, or deep shelving unit to add warmth, tactile texture, and visual history to contemporary or country-style spaces.

Keep the timber free of dust using a soft dry cloth, apply clear microcrystalline wax occasionally to protect both the pine and the ironwork, and avoid placing the item near direct heat sources.
