FAQs

Tea caddies originated in 18th-century Britain when tea was an expensive commodity, requiring secure, lockable containers to preserve its value and flavour.

Craftsmen utilised high-quality native and exotic timbers such as mahogany, burr yew, and burr walnut, often featuring fine stringing, dovetail joints, and brass escutcheons.

Authenticity is determined by period-appropriate construction methods, hand-cut dovetailing, original brass hardware, aged timber patination, and interior remnants of foil lining or compartment dividers.

An antique tea caddy adds texture and historical interest when placed on a sideboard, console table, or bookshelf as a sophisticated standalone decorative accent.

Preserve antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and periodically applying a microcrystalline wax to maintain the finish without harming the historic patina.
