Description

A stylish and very well made pair of Swedish Art Deco armchairs in satin birch and leather. They were recently imported from Sweden, they date from the 1930’s.

The quality is excellent, they are well sprung and very comfortable. The sweeping satin birch arms curve beautifully down to the front legs, giving them a sleek and curvaceous look. The satin birch has a lovely colour tone and wonderful grain patterns.

We have had the frames stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, and they have been re-upholstered in a gorgeous brown leather by the previous owner. We have had the leather revived and enhanced by our leather restorer. The condition is excellent, with only some extremely minor wear remaining here and there.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Swedish Art Deco, which emerged during the 1920s and 1930s, combines functionalism with sophisticated craftsmanship, frequently utilising native light woods like birch alongside streamlined, geometric silhouettes.

Traditional construction typically involves solid hardwood or bentwood frames veneered in luxury timbers such as satin birch, paired with high-quality leather upholstery and traditional coil springing.

Authentic pieces generally display period-correct joinery, natural wear to the leather hide, authentic finishing techniques like hand-applied shellac or varnish, and structural weight indicative of solid construction.

Pairing these armchairs with minimalist contemporary furniture or neutral colour schemes allows the distinctive wood grain and curved silhouette to serve as a focal point in the room.

Maintain the leather by conditioning it periodically to prevent cracking, and protect the wood surfaces from direct sunlight and excessive humidity by using specialised furniture wax.
