FAQs

During the Victorian era, tea was an expensive commodity, leading to the creation of secure, decorative caddies often featuring locks to store and preserve loose leaves.

These boxes are typically constructed from a solid timber carcass finished with fine wood veneers, marquetry, or parquetry inlay patterns, frequently featuring brass escutcheons and velvet or foil linings.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut dovetail joints, period-appropriate lock mechanisms, aged patina on the timber, and traditional hand-applied French polish finishes.

A period tea caddy functions well as a decorative accent piece when placed on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or coffee table, adding texture and historical interest to contemporary schemes.

Preservation requires keeping the item away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations to prevent veneer cracking, applying occasional quality wax, and avoiding moisture.
