The George II period spans from 1727 to 1760, characterised by a transition from heavy walnut designs to the sophisticated use of carved mahogany, featuring prominent cabriole legs, ball and claw feet, and classical architectural motifs.

These chairs were primarily constructed from solid dense mahogany imported from the West Indies, joined using traditional mortise and tenon joinery, hand-carved ornamentation, and upholstered drop-in seats supported by webbing.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate patina, hand-cut secondary timbers such as oak or pine on the frame undersides, tool marks from hand chisels, and structural wear consistent with age rather than machine-made uniformity.

Pairing this historic seating piece with minimalist modern architecture or contrasting it against a clean, neutral wall creates a striking focal point that highlights its intricate craftsmanship without overwhelming the room.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying microcrystalline wax periodically, and avoiding silicone-based polishes.
