FAQs

Edwardian furniture, spanning the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often lighter and simpler than heavy Victorian pieces, drawing inspiration from earlier Georgian and Sheraton revivals.

These chairs typically utilised domestic and imported timbers such as mahogany, walnut, oak, and beech, frequently complemented by woven cane, rush, or rattan for seating inserts.

Authentic pieces often display period-appropriate joinery techniques, subtle age-related patina on the timber, hand-woven cane work, and hardware or construction methods consistent with early 20th-century manufacturing.

Pairing historical timber seating with minimalist modern tables or placing them as accent pieces in neutral rooms creates a balanced contrast between old and new design elements.

Maintain the timber using appropriate wax polishes while avoiding direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations, which can dry out and fracture traditional woven cane panels.
