Regency furniture, spanning the early 19th century, draws heavily on classical Greco-Roman influences, featuring restrained ornamentation, elegant proportions, and a shift towards native timbers such as fruitwood and mahogany.

Country chairs of this era were typically constructed from local British hardwoods, predominantly fruitwoods like cherry, pear, or apple, alongside oak, ash, and elm for strength and durability.

Authentication relies on examining hand-cut joinery, traditional tool marks, patination and wear consistent with age, timber shrinkage, and structural construction methods typical of pre-industrial workshops.

Mixing period timber pieces with modern minimalist or industrial furniture introduces warmth, texture, and historical contrast, grounding contemporary spaces with authentic character.

Maintain fruitwood furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying microcrystalline wax periodically, and dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth.
