This Arts and Crafts side chair dates from 1900 and uses solid oak, leather, and brass studs. The timber has a warm brown finish with visible grain patterns across the rectangular wooden seat and upright frame. A dark leather panel with a metallic sheen runs along the top crest rail, secured by a single row of small round brass studs. Two vertical back splats contain patterned cutouts, while the lower section includes a sturdy H-stretcher base connecting four straight legs. The dimensions measure 99 cm high, 39 cm wide, and 48 cm deep, providing compact seating suited to a study, home office, or hallway. Practical placement includes a writing desk, a dressing table, or an occasional seating role in a living room. The construction relies on traditional joinery techniques without upholstery on the main seat, which shows a simple contoured surface. The piece reflects the utilitarian and handcrafted principles of the period design movement. Each chair is available for individual purchase from a set of three.

The Arts and Crafts movement emphasised honest craftsmanship, functional forms, and natural materials, often featuring exposed joinery, native timber like oak, and stylized decorative cutouts.

Furniture makers primarily utilized solid native hardwoods, predominantly quarter-sawn oak, alongside natural leather upholstery, brass studs, and traditional mortise and tenon joinery.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit solid timber construction with visible grain, hand-finished surfaces, pegged joints, and characteristic design details such as vertical slat backs with carved or pierced cutouts.

A single oak chair functions well as an accent piece beside a writing desk, in an entryway, or integrated into an eclectic dining space to introduce warm wood tones.

Clean the timber using a soft dry cloth and apply natural beeswax polish periodically to preserve the patina, ensuring the piece remains away from direct heat sources and moisture.
