Edwardian furniture, spanning the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often lighter in form than Victorian pieces, frequently drew inspiration from earlier 18th-century designs while incorporating subtle Arts and Crafts or Art Nouveau motifs.

Edwardian chairs were predominantly constructed from hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and satinwood, often featuring upholstered drop-in seats covered in traditional textiles like velvet, brocade, or damask.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-appropriate joinery methods such as mortise and tenon, hand-turned wooden elements, aged timber patination, and wear patterns consistent with early 20th-century manufacture.

An antique wooden chair can serve as a striking accent piece in a contemporary setting, functioning effectively as a desk chair, a standalone corner feature, or paired with a minimalist dining table to create an eclectic contrast.

Preserve antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting, and maintain the polished surface using microfibre cloths and occasional applications of microcrystalline wax.
