This nineteenth-century Swedish oak strong box embodies Scandinavian folk art style and measures 24 cm high, 70 cm wide, and 54.6 cm deep. The construction employs solid oak with natural wood tones, complemented by wrought iron strapwork, corner brackets, side carrying handles, and an ornate escutcheon lock plate. Hand-painted floral motifs adorn the front panel and the lid, whilst original hinges secure the structure. Expected fading and minor old restorations are visible on the woodwork, and the key operates with a slow turn. Practical for placement on a sideboard top, the piece functions well for storage or display in a rustic farmhouse interior.

A Swedish strongbox from the 19th century is a heavy wooden chest, constructed from hardwoods like oak and reinforced with iron mounts, used to store valuables and documents. Many pieces feature traditional Scandinavian folk art painting, reflecting regional craftsmanship.

These boxes were constructed from dense timber such as oak or pine, fitted with hand-forged wrought iron strapwork, corner brackets, and heavy locks. Pigments derived from natural minerals were applied to create detailed painted patterns.

Authentic examples display hand-forged metalwork with uneven surface texture, traditional joinery techniques, and genuine wear to the original paint finish. Natural timber shrinkage and oxidisation around the iron fittings are standard indicators of age.

Position the box on a sideboard, console table, or wide shelf as a central decorative accent. Combining the patinated timber and ironwork with minimalist ceramics or clean-lined modern backdrops highlights its visual texture.

Maintain the box in a stable, climate-controlled environment away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement and paint deterioration. Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth without applying water, chemical sprays, or wax polishes over original painted surfaces.
