Georgian mirrors from the 18th century are characterised by symmetrical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and often incorporated materials like silvered glass, brass, or fine woods, reflecting the classical influences of the period.

These pieces typically utilised hand-cut glass with mercury backing, supported by frames made of brass, copper, or hardwood, often featuring easel stands for tabletop display.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural foxing, which appears as dark spots and oxidisation within the glass plate, alongside hand-cut bevels and period-appropriate fastener construction on the reverse.

Such a compact item works effectively on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or dressing table, adding textural depth and historical character through its aged reflective surface.

The glass should be dusted gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth, avoiding commercial liquid cleaners and moisture to protect the fragile historical backing and oxidised silvering.
