Description

A large and very impressive antique Victorian leather Chesterfield armchair. This was made in England, we would date it to around the 1880’s period.

The quality is outstanding, this is extremely well made and comfortable. The deep buttoned leather has a gorgeous green colour tone and an absolutely beautiful patina. This is filled with horse hair and sits on mahogany bun feet with brass casters beneath.

We have had this revived and enhanced by our leather restorer, there is one very small repair to the back edge, barely noticeable at all. Overall this is in superb condition for its age.

Width – 45 inches , 114 cm

Depth – 34 inches , 86 cm

Height – 29 inches , 73 cm

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Chesterfield style originated in the 18th century, traditionally associated with deep button tufting and rolled arms, becoming a staple of British interior design by the Victorian era.

Authentic period pieces typically feature a solid beech or hardwood frame, coil spring suspension, horsehair or wool stuffing, and hand-dyed bovine leather secured with individual brass tacks.

Authenticity is indicated by traditional hand-stitched leather, genuine button tufting secured through the upholstery layers, hand-forged or cast brass tacks, and period-appropriate wood or brass castors.

Pair the piece with minimalist modern lighting, neutral architectural backdrops, and contemporary textured rugs to create a balanced study in contrasts.

Preserve the leather by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly, and applying specialized leather balms or saddle soaps periodically to prevent cracking.
